“I want to see you covering elections around the continent. Next time we come for an exhibition, don’t just show us Uganda, show us Africa. Represent East Africa and take your talent to the world because Uganda is about taking over the world,” he said.

Kasujja also challenged journalists and creatives to pursue ambitious goals while remaining committed to impactful storytelling within their communities.

She encouraged young creatives to emulate his passion, noting that his work reflects the growing influence of African visual storytellers across the continent.

Organisers said the exhibition comes at a time when digital platforms are transforming how stories are told, making visual journalism increasingly relevant.

Dorah Atwongyeire, head of the organising committee, said the initiative highlights the enduring value of journalism despite the rapid rise of new media.

“Young people today use pictures and videos to tell stories, and that is one thing Isano has mastered,” she said.

Photojournalist Abu Lubowa described the exhibition as a source of inspiration for students and aspiring journalists.

“This should be a wake-up call to those in universities that you can make it if you commit yourself and do your work well,” he said.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Francis Isano said the exhibition seeks to highlight the often-overlooked effort behind photojournalism.

“People used to think photojournalism is just about jumping around taking pictures, but there is much more behind the work. I wanted people to appreciate what photojournalism has done and continues to do,” he said.

Several guests described Isano as a transformative figure in visual storytelling, noting that his work captures authentic and relatable human experiences.

NRM youth leader Elizabeth Kakwanzi credited Isano with increasing appreciation of photojournalism among young people, while his sister, Muteteri Jane, urged him to remain grounded despite his growing success.

Through the Lens Season 2 is scheduled for August 7, 2026. The inaugural edition, held in 2024, was officiated by Thomas Tayebwa.
